Oh man. On “Obligatory Self-Titled Debut Release”, Necroanal bombards us with 21 tracks of his trademark brand of what I think of as power noise-goregrind. The music itself can be described as short chunks of extremely distorted and extremely intense power noise, e.g. grind-noise. The long and ridiculously explicit song titles lend themselves more to goregrind than any kind of industrial music I have encountered. Are you intrigued yet? Or maybe more like “what the fuck!?”. Yeah, that was my reaction too.

While the song titles on “Obligatory Self-Titled Debut Release” are completely ridiculous and somewhat stupid, the music is not. Necroanal gives us some seriously intense in your fucking face noise. The songs are all pretty similar, comprising of some really fast distorted beats with some more layers of super distorted noise and then occasionally some cheesy overly distorted synths (see a pattern here?). Although the songs employ super over the top distortion, the final result isn’t really that ridiculous and is actually listenable and even…enjoyable! Obviously I equate this to grindcore, and if you are looking for an industrial/noise equivalent to grindcore then you will love this record. Very harsh and quick, it does not waste time smashing your face in…only then to shit in your mouth, fuck your dead corpse and ejaculate all over the remains. Although the music is very fast, at no point is it simply over the top for the sake of being over the top. You could potentially say that some of this borders on “speedcore” territory, but it never has that ludicrous “OMG LOOK HOW FAST MY DRUMS ARE AHAHAHAHAHA” sentiment. The music, although it is basically unstructured and directionless, is…well, ok yeah it’s completely insane, yet it retains a hint of cohesiveness that tells me that there was effort put into the creation of this piece and it was not simply thrown together in a few minutes and proclaimed to be complete.

The bottom line is that every song is basically exactly the same thing, more or less, but if you are looking for a competent and unique display of fast, brutal, and grind-y (but with a sense of humor) power noise then it won’t matter and you will enjoy this record immensely.
