Stigmata NL is a Dark Electro project from the Netherlands which
recently signed with BLC Productions. This month I had a chance to
interview the band's founder Robert Dope. For more info go to:
www.myspace.com/blcstigmata
What is Stigmata NL? Can you give us a brief bio?
Stigmata is an one man project by only me, Robert Dope. I'm working
for 5 years now on this project..I was 13 when I've started this bad
motherfucker..in these 5 years, shitloads of things are happened. At
first, I just wanted to make music, but I had no idea which kind of
music I would really love to do, since I was a big metal, hardstyle,
trance and electro freak...so it was a bit of experimenting in the first
2 years. After these 2 years, I've met a new person here in Holland who
was totally crazy about Dark Electro. After one day talking he gave me a
list with shitloads of artists on it to check out (Suicide Commando,
blutengel, combichrist) I even can't remember which ones. Once I got my
hands on a Suicide Commando disc..I definitely was surprised, I never
heard that kind of music before..but it was getting me crazy. Since that
day, I started my own dark electro project, and now..5 years later
(actually 3), I'm ready to drop my Debut this or next yearon BLC
Productions..don't look heavenward for mercy, there will be none! :-)
Where did the name come from/Why did you choose
this name?
Haha, it came from the middle of nowhere. Actually it came when I'd
sent my first demo song to BLC Productions for Interbreeding VIII:
Elements of Violence. Brandon (the big evil man from BLC) asked me: "Who
is the artist here, Robert?" I was like, shit..I don't have one, so
without thinking..Stigmata came in my mind and I was in love with
it..since I dig the movie..haha, that's how everything came. Later, we
had to do some changes on the name for some reason..It was easy to
do..so I've turned it into Stigmata NL...Viva La Hollandia! ;-)
What do you hope to accomplish with Stigmata
NL/music in general?
Honestley, my only goal is to drop something good on BLC
Productions. since music will always be my thing..I will never stop
producing music, and if Brandon didn't give me the label offer..I still
would sit here as 3 years ago..and I wouldn't have anything done to make
the stuff beter..for fucks sake..thanks to BLC Productions!
What inspires you to make music?
Hmm..I'm just a music person, I can't live a day without creating
music..what does inspires me? Horror movies I think..especially the
choirs...Honestley, I have no idea what inspires me....must be an evil
person above..;-)
I know you’ve been on a few Interbreeding
compilations and are going to be releasing an album through BLC in the
near future. How did you hook up with BLC initially? How has it worked
out for you?
It all started with Interbreeding VIII: Elements of Violence..after
sending in the demo's No Way Out (Evil Dead Mix) and Hurt you..Brandon
gave me an offer to join the BLC forces..of course, I couldn't resist it
and so..I joined the place of evil...since that day, the old Stigmata NL
is dead!
What can we expect from the new album? How is it
going to be different from previous Stigmata NL works?
You can expect lots of love songs, jazz..disco, country...BULLSHIT!
Hmm..I can't tell much about it....yet. All I can say that it will be
dark and disharmonic..it will be an secret for you all till the album is
released...I can't describe the difference between the old and new
songs..I can keep going and going, it's TOO huge.......just have some
patience till the album is release..you will be suprised :-) The old
songs were boring..the new songs..are heavy and catchy.
In what ways was the recording of the new material
different from your previous works?
Short and easy..at the first 2 demo songs I only used 1 VST
instrument..now, I use TONS of stuff..:-)
You’ve got a track on the upcoming Wounds of the
Earth compilation featuring Viscera Drip. How did that come together?
I'd finished an instrumental a while ago called Orgy At The Cross
(also, that one is way different then the new songs ;-)), since Justin
is verry good with his lyrics, I asked him to complete the song by doing
some sick lyrics and vocals..he loved it and it came out verry
well...warning: not for children ;-) Thanks, Justin!
Collaboration is something that I personally think
is great in music and I don’t think enough bands collab. Do you have any
plans for future collaborations?
Yes..after the debut of Stigmata NL is released...I maybe will start
a new project...can't tell something about it right now, but...it
definitley has something to do with collaborations. Oh...and don't
expect anything sweet..haha
What do you think the future of industrial music
is? Where is there left to go?
I think the industrial scene is running well, and it will get
bigger..bigger, and bigger. I'm sure there are lots of people who will
LOVE this music, all they have to do is discover it. Once...we will kill
Hip-Hop..and we will be all over the TV stations! (Damn, what a dream)
What are the top albums that inspire you?

Robert Dope
